VOF Week 3: (Breakin' it down)

So I opened up my Pulse Wire account about a week ago to find Assignment 3 – “Blogging”. “Sweet!” I thought, “this is going to be a fan-tab-u-lar topic”. I got really excited, I couldn’t wait to get started.

Question 1: “What are your challenges and barriers to blogging?”

“Oh geeze” I think…the truth, I have to think about the truth here – in the next few seconds a hundred thoughts and feelings run through me, I try to rationalize and make excuses and then I realize – my hurtle to blogging is “I don’t think what I have to say is important enough, maybe my humour won’t come across correctly (I tend to be a tad sarcastic from time to time), maybe people will just laugh at me and say ‘ ahhhh, another unoriginal, boring blog just like the rest’”. The brick wall between me and blogging is nothing but myself, my insecurities and fears – and that disappoints me. I challenge myself in so many other ways in life, but for some reason this is where I am really falling short, where it matters most – articulating who I am and what I believe.

Well, that was an emotional minute in my head, some people say ‘the truth hurts’, and I will say “it was momentarily painful, but I am ready to move on’. What else has been holding you back I ask my self honestly?

“Ahhh”, I think “I have some preconceived notions about what blogging ‘should be’ or ‘has to be’” – but I am beginning to realize I these notions are wrong. Blogging can be something different for everyone – there is no one right answer - it is flexible and unique – and quite frankly not as scary as I thought. “What else?” I ask myself, I always thought that if you become a blogger you had to BE A BLOGGER – like that was your only role in life –crazy, I know!. I had a fear that once I said I was a blogger I would feel some sort of obligation, and with the hectic work place and country I live in, I didn’t want to let myself (or the 3 people who might read my blog) down.

What to do? What to do?

Keep reading the assignment I tell myself, it’s all good!

Question 2: What are some of your present solutions to overcoming these challenges and barriers? What else do you need to overcome them in the future?

Solution Number 1: Just blog already!

Solution Number 2: Start blogging!

Solution Number 3: Just start bloggin already!

My solution is to take the risk, start the blog – the only way to over come my fears, my challenges and to break through my own brick wall is to actually just get started.

And thus, I give you my hardly complete, under construction, latest attempt –BLOG. I know I can do it, it’s taken me a while to get there. But here I am!
