I am a human rights activist who has been working with National non-governmental organisations for the last 7 years. AS a human rights lawyer and activist i have worked with marginalised communities, commercial sex workers and informal sector workers. Being able to work with these communities has helped me grow as aleader becasue i appreciate the way they live and also being able to represent them in court has exposed to many opportunities in my career. As a result of working with the batwa community i was able to apply for online course on Minority rights which i passed very well and i was invited to Geneva to make a statement on the batwa at the United Nations Minority Forum. AS a result of representing the batwa in Kanungu district i was invited by interights to talk about a maternal case i was handling. I was ainvited by Interights to talk about a case i handled on expolitation of children. All these opprtunities were online and becasue of digitial media i was selected as one of the participanst of these trainings.
I also applied for a Nuffic fellowship program where i attended a course in the Hague on Peace and Conflict resoloution. Didgital media has exposed me to many oopportunities that have contributed to my career and my leadership skills.
I love working with communities especially those that are vulnerable. I am currently into farming with my husband and my family members. and the areas where we are farming i have engaged with the communities becasue the communities have resigned to their poverty state. I dont beelive that we have to always wait for the state to come and help us when we are very abled people. I have met with the Local Council chairmen and we are in the process of organising trianings for the members in the community so that they know what to grow and we are able to connect to the market. Becasue i have acces to didgital meid i want to be able to use this information on the internet to better the live of people in my community and also encourga the girl and boy children to go further with their education. May of these children drop out of school becasue their parents cannot afford to pay for their education and so i want to help them access bursaries and scholarships so that they can be better people in the future.
My Vision for the Future
Community Empowerment is very importanat to me. I beleive that once the community is empowered then poverty can be eradicated and level of school drop outs can be reduced.I hope that through the trainings and constant interactions with the community they will be empowered to engage in agricultural activities that can improve on their economic status. My hopes are that most women will be more involved so that their families lives can be changed.
