SLUM WOMEN

I am Kenyan, living in the biggest slums in sub Saharan Africa in Nairobi Kenya here in Africa. I do not regret my life in the slums, it has helped me to learn so much and to understand what people go through in life. In Slum Life, you do not live your live, you cannot enjoy your music because you share roof with you neighbour and if he/she plays loud music then you are forced to listen to hers. You cannot bring up your children your style because you share almost everything with several people around. The best you can do to your family is to make them understand what righteousness is.

There are people think that slum people do not work hard that is why they are poor or some who think that they are people who never went to school, or were too poor in school to pass their exams and that is why they live the kind of life here, but it is not so. We have people who were very clever in school but could not go far because of poverty, there are people who are just victims of circumstances, maybe you loose your parents and loose everything so you look for a cheaper life here in the slums. Or maybe you are attracted to a man who lives in the slums and you feel love conquers everything so life settles you here.

In Slums people work very hard, women wake up as early as 4:00 a.m and go to bed passed mid night but still the little they make cannot allow them to move to better housing, they have famillies to feed and as usual, most slum women are very generous in having babies, I do not want to use a harsher word because many people reason that you should not have more children than you can take care of but where do we get this very important information, who tells us how what is important for us.

We are working hard towards empowering more slum women to come up and manage their positively, our diversity is our strength.
