Coping With Sweet Pressure

Its been almost 6weeks since our bundle of joy arrived Goshen Home & Orphanage. Yes! She is 6weeks old. She is a precious gift to us and the older children. But her coming has also ushered in a new phase of challenges.

In saner climes, charity institutions like orphanages and care centres are either owned and funded by government or even where they are private establishments, they still enjoy good support from government.

But it is not the same in this part of the world. Here, you must carry your cross and joggle it out as best as you can. You will have to source for funds to run the orphanage, feed the children, pay school fees, medical bills, staff salary and attend to all other expenses. It is only in very rare cases, perhaps during Christmas season that officials of the Social Welfare Unit donate few items, mostly noddles and rice to support your work.

And so the coming of Baby Goshen has in the last 6 weeks put pressure on us-:

Yes! There is pressure to provide baby milk from time to time (and she eats a lot now); pressure of sleepless nights on the caregiver; pressure of having to employ additional staff to cater for other children while the Matron focuses on her as Carer; and of course pressure of washing baby clothes and other stuff now and again.

Indeed it has not been easy. All of us have had to make adjustments and sacrifices. Our schedules have had to change, especially when it comes to going out to source for funds.

But l must admit that it has been sweet pressure. The thought of giving life and joy to an hapless little girl makes the pain and pressure worth it all!

Who knows what she would turn out to be in the nearest future? Who knows if this is the next Amazon, the next Changemaker or the next Impact Leader? Who knows? Who knows?
