About Me:
The Mabinti wa Amani Initiative Kenyans (MPIKs) was established in August 2008 by young people (majority are ladies) and registered as an NGO in Kenya on November 2012 to sensitize the mentoring of the future Leaders, preaching peace and involvement of the community in active non-violence governance, Empowering Women and the youths, protecting child rights and development especially the orphans and vulnerable children, helping alleviate poverty and secure lasting improvements in the quality of lives of people living in informal settlements.
Formation of the group was necessitated by the existence of Post election shock especially to the children and young people, abject poverty that characterizes Kawangware and various slums and the resultant poor quality of life. This group of Young people, majority of who were born bred or had lived in slum areas felt the need to do something about the many problems that exist in these community. These problems include lack of access education, land, better housing, human rights abuses, drugs, Cancer, HIV and Aids, unemployment, water shortages, illiteracy, lack of access to information, ignorance ,degraded environment, poor drainage, communal/ethnic and inter-religious violence, bad governance, corruption, domestic violence, child abuse, rape, illicit brews, poor health, poor infrastructure and insecurity.
