Ray of hope

Pakistan is the country being targeted by terrorism for the past many years. The intensified fighting between militants and military and outbreak of sectarian violence’s in remote areas has forced the population to migrate to the outskirts of the area. 2010 devastated flood has further deteriorated the situation and about 20 million people were left stranded on the mercy of the nature under the open sky with no food and water, residing now in camps in worse conditions.
Displacement has specially affected women as living in camp is difficult keeping in view the religion and norms of the society. Women’s safety, their gender-specific needs, and privacy are not respected they feel insecure in tents. Females were already most neglected segment of FATA as FATA is famous for its rigid social structure in relevance to tradition but ruthless people has taken more advantage of the scenario and number of rapes, killing, sexual harassment and such other cases of violence against women was drastically increased during these crises.
Being the far flung area of country, FATA received less attention due to its remote geographic location and lesser accessibility while the roads and communication channels was also badly disrupted and the area is virtually cut off from the rest of the country so no one can hear voices of victims or if they want to shout, to be heard they were muted by pressurized groups. That’s why I want to become their voice.
I am excited about web 2.0 it’s providing me opportunity to raise their voices to be heard globally.
In ancient times it was quite difficult to share your words but now world is just click away. Your words can easily reach to millions.
Today’s woman is not alone; web 2.0 has powerful impact on global women's empowerment movement. Digital media is proved as most instrumental tool in changing society, it has drew attention of authorities on many unveiled cases that were subdued cause of its sensitivity but bringing them to digital media compelled the authorities to take action on such sensitive issues for its eradication from society. Web2.0 is becoming threat for guilty people and it might be the reason that youtube is banned in Pakistan but still have many other tools of digital media to raise our voice and fight for our rights we the struggler are not and will never disappoint. Web 2.0 is ray of hope, bridging the gaps of communication.
People are fighting with destructive weapons in our country but I am not scared, not worried because I have the most powerful weapon of my words and my access to web 2.0. I can speak for myself and for my society, with my words I can change the world and heal the broken. I will bring the smiles back on the faces of the traumatized population by bringing their voices into mainstream thus empower the vulnerable to improve women status. Soon People will hear my voice, spread my words and help me in building constructive society.
