  2. What did you do really well during your interview?

  3. What do you want to work on improving for next time?

I was nervous before the interview with the woman leader as this was my first time to conduct this form of interview. We had postponed the interview twice due to her busy schedule as a minister who had just been appointed. I met her in 2010 in one of the international movement; Peoples Health Movement and she struck me as a young focused, eloquent, assertive and one who understands women and girl-child issues. I overcame the anxiety when we began normal charting and catching up on daily occurrences this enabled me to relax.

I was able to bring out the experiences of this leader with women and girls throughout her varied careers and other aspects of life. I was also able to unveil her crucial involvement with policies formulation that has contributed to women and girl-child welfare. Her contribution in these policies include: the constitution, women land rights as anchored in the land laws that were enacted in Kenya in 2012and children’s act etc

My note taking was so poor I could not put up with her speed of explanations but the recorder helped me to capture more details during the interview. I will try to probe instantly when need be instead of taking my interviewee backward the way I did in this one.
