"VOF Week 1: (Voyage of Exploration)"

Voyage of Exploration.....

Her nature which many identify as ‘feminine’, giving her a role at home or domestic sphere, often tends to be neglected or mainstreamed in the public sphere. This public sphere is highly dominant – a sphere in which interactions are centred on decision making, politics, economics and other worldly events that are considered to be far away from her- yet do shape her life. As this public sphere is dominant, and her space here is negligible, she tends to be another worldly object- at times a ghost - a voiceless ghost.

The search for the quest of giving a ‘voice’ is a challenge. The challenge in which the key word is, ‘empowerment’. Hence outlets like the Pulse Wire can open up opportunities for a unique role of providing individual women to unleash their voices and be heard on a global scale. This ‘voice’ would facilitate the decision making capacity to shape decisions that affect their own life.

Technology hooks every corner of the globe. It’s ever expanding influence embrace every existing space, touching the lives of many and exploring countless possibilities. This provides ample room to explore – to explore the voices of the unknown, the unheard and the invisible. Women’s empowerment movement is a voyage of exploration. The web 2.0 provides an avenue for this voyage of exploration. In this voyage of exploration, information is dynamic with the collective intelligence of the community, thus contributing to an online interactive community.

The social networking can help the empowerment movements in many ways, bridging geographical, political, social and economic disparities. It would serve as a ‘platform’ for the ‘like minds to think alike’, thereby network with people of similar interests. It would be a platform to challenge ideas, information and stories – stories and ideas that would be the inspiration for the future.

I am an aspiring woman, who believes in innate potentials deep within, and takes the utmost pride in being a woman. I believe on empowerment, and believe in opening up, to learn from others and share experiences, thereby broadening my vision. In a voyage of exploration, I would also like to meet other who share similar visions and take pride of being who she is.

I dream and aspire to be a part of a challenging environment. An environment where I am free to explore myself, and investigate the countless possibilities of exploring an empowered world for myself and others like me. This is what excites me most on the web 2.0. It is a place where I find opportunities to explore a world of experiences to emerge as an individual I ‘ought’ to be. I ‘ought’ to be a woman – a woman with pride, a woman with a voice.
