TRUST?

My ride in town today brought me to see a beautiful young girl of about 6 years of age, playing carefree some distance from what seemed to be her home and the words that came to my heart was 'When I have a daughter, I can never let her play so carefree outside my watchful eyes at such a tender age'.
What made me make this statement many may ask. The young beautiful innocent child reminded me of myself when I was about her age. I remember vividly how I would have been a victim of rape by my neighbour's brother but for the intervention of her maid.
How many young children are violated by people whom they ought to trust I ask myself. How many women live with the trauma all their life because they cannot seek for help either from their parents or the society in which they live; especially in a society like mine where the fault is always attributed to a woman so the woman would rather keep silent than be shamed by society.
This space here I see as my 'free air' having read the experiences of other women!
Women like me, must work hard to rise to the top so that we can advocate for changes and see that they are effected. I am happy that there have been changes over the years but I must state, that the status quo has not changed much: The girl child is still faced with many challenges especially in societies like mine.
