My journey

As I add the fourth year leaf to my resume, I sit down to introspect and assess the work or the experiences I have gained over this period of time. Although there is not that much to tell, but I have gained a lot of experience while interviewing people from different strata of the society.
I come from a remote village of Sopore, that is located right on the top of the mountain which furnishes an overview of the whole place with houses, orchid and army camps, it’s just near the banks of the much famed Wular lake.
Although I have obtained all my education here in the city, I hold a strong connection to my place back in the fields and spring.
I inherited interest in books from my Father, who gifted me my first ever book- War and peace long back. And since then I have been a voracious reader of classical novels, ranging from Tolstoy to Dostoevsky.
I developed a great interest in writing during my studies only and hence I chose to study journalism were I could put my writing to a better use.
It was in the year 2012, that I started my internship with a national daily Indian express, were I learned the story- telling techniques, news gathering and the news room culture.
It was my first time in a newsroom, the pressure of deadlines, new beats, sources, quotes, all where gradually being added to my vocabulary.
I started to write features, off-beat stories and their only I came to know that I had an interest in narrative, long-form writing , so then I concentrated on that thing to come up with a refined piece with all possible details.
And since then I have tried my best to write on social issues, women empowerment, children and conflict.
I try to be unbiased throughout my report and do not take sides.
I have received a Peace Fellowship 2016 from SAVE- The Children and I have delivered stories on children and women living in Conflict.
I have also been a regular contributor for Women’s Feature Services and trying to highlight the achievements and difficulties of women living in Kashmir.
It is a tough job to report in Kashmir especially for a female but I have tried to reach all the affected areas from Gool, to Uri .
I aim to report on all the possible beats as the time passes by.
