I'm an international travel & wedding photographer (among other things) and I have a particular love for Cambodia... I came across the landfill in Phnom Penh and have made several trips there with supplies for the women and children living and working there. There are photos of the landfill on some of my websites as well - check the Giving Back section. BongMao is a nickname I got there somewhere... supposed to mean Mr.Brown... but very similar to the Thai word for 'drunk' - (mao)... come to find out it actually means Mr. Black - hmmm I need to get 'fixed'!... People always crack up and laugh when we tell them our "names". My friend is called, Bong Weng - Mr. Long as he is quite tall and has fairly long hair for a man. Ironically, the profile photo is from the north perhaps somewhere btw Sisophon and Anlong Veng... Bong Weng and I had stopped at about 10am along the road as it was silky smooth - rather rare and boring for us... I was invited into the house you see in the pic to have some shots decanted out of a one gallon diesel oil container... it was smooth... mostly.
Travel advice via moto outside of the city: it's the most fun you can ever have, but DO NOT drive after dark when in the countryside. If the cooking smoke and bugs don't get you, the large potholes with large pieces of wood (2x12"s) sticking straight out of them will jump out and end your 'riding career'... suddenly. Updates 2010: Many roads are being paved throughout Cambodia - not certain of the ultimate effect for the population and the landscape just yet!
