"Lighting the Way"

I recommend Karenna Gore Schiff's excellent book, "Lighting the Way." Schiff's well-researched and intelligently written book recounts the lives and activism of nine American women. These nine women are not the usual female historical figures of American history. These women are black and white, from a widely divergent backgrounds, but revolutionaries all in their activism for the causes they championed.

These women, faced great dangers, ridicule, jail, experienced abuse in all forms. Non of that stopped them in their fight, sometimes alone, for labor reforms, civil rights, opportunities for women, literacy, public health including toxic chemical issues in the workplace and in the environment.

"Lighting the Way" is inspiring. The women are courageous and relentless in their belief that the world can do better for the human condition. By their actions, many changes came about to that end. One person can impact the lives of many others and forward in time as well.
