Lifting Up The Banner Of the Voiceless On WorldPulse

It is a known fact that the development of Africa and Nigeria inclusive depends on given the women a say and participation in the leadership. If the women lack information, innovations and economic power, there is little or nothing they can do and their oppression will continue. But when they have access to happenings around the world through web 2.0 and how to go about innovations in their community that will help them in taking positive actions to be able to stand on their feet economically, this will enable them to stand up and challenge the power pulling them down from contributing their own quota to the development of their community and their nation as a whole.
This is the reason why I am asking for a place to lift up the banners of these millions of voiceless women on World Pulse Board of Directors. I could remember just two years ago, Even though i was educated, well read and yet ignorant because I lacked information and dead to happenings around the world. For fifteen years I was carrying my dreams around until I came across the program of the Voice of Our Future Correspondence. My live was turn around and in a twinkle of an eye, the dream I thought I would die with is gradually becoming a reality. Since then my thirst to help women in my community is becoming more and more because I now know the implications of not having access to information. This brought me to the idea of having Women Inspiration Center in Nigeria where there would be a cybercafé for (women only) so that women in my community will not continue to live in the dark and be helpless on things to better their lives like I was till last year when I came in contact with World pulse.
Nigerian women are victims of stereotypical attitudes towards gender roles. They are victims of sexual abuse, undue pressure as a result of the high poverty level in the country, HIV/AIDS, hypertension and even psychological problems. All these problems are due to lack of access to information and happenings around that could help the women to improve themselves. Nigerian women bottled up so many problems and yet they put on bold faces as if all is well because it is the belief that you don’t wear your problems in your faces.s The answers to these problems are education, access to internet and empowerment.
The vision is also to create an opportunity for the Adolescents and Young Adult who dropped out of schools as a result of poverty and unwanted pregnancy to learn a vocation and be self reliant with positive values and attitudes towards life. This set of people are already constituting social problems through out the nation because as a result of them, there are large increase in the number of Human trafficking, prostitutes, HIV/AIDS victims and loss of woman dignity which is making it more and more difficult for the achievement of Gender Equality in Nigeria. The Women Inspiration Center will be a place where Nigerian women would be airing problems that are facing them and how to bring about solutions to these problems. As these women are bringing their concerns to the center, I will be their representative and voice at the WorldPulse Board of Directors.
On monthly basis now, I give educational talks to women on different topics like protecting themselves from violence, creating better life for themselves and how they could preserve their dignity. On each of these meetings, we did not have less than 100 women. There is also a plan on ground to take off after I finished my Empowerment Training at the Empowerment Institute. This is having workshop with grassroots’ women in towns and villages in my community training them on creating their lives the way they want it. This will help the women to discovering their potentials and exploit them to the fullest.
Therefore I strongly believe that acquiring Board skill will accelerate my success in running the Women Inspiration Center and meeting the needs of the women in my community.
