Greetings and brief introduction of myself to the group

Hello Everyone, it is good to be part of you here amazing sisters round the world. You are all my inspiration..

My name is Busayo Obisakin. I am the CEO/Founder of Women Inspiration Development Center, an initiative designed to create a safe place for Nigerian women and girls in challenging life circumstances to envision and create new possibilities for their lives, families and communities. http://womeninspirationce.wix.com/widcng

I have always been very passionate about gender equality since I was so young because I grew up in a setting whereby women means nothing but to used as glorified slaves and baby machine. I have dedicated much of my work in life to support women and girls in many capacities. With B Sc degree in Guidance Counselling and M Sc degree in Administration, I had worked as a Guidance Counsellor at the secondary school for 18 years and I am currently a Counselling Psychologist in the Division of Students’ Affairs, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state, Nigeria.

In 2009, I participated in the program Voice of our Future Correspodence (VOF) organized by Worldpulse, USA. http://worldpulse.com/user/1463 Through this program, I became the World Pulse correspondent in Nigeria and also won an award scholarship to the United States of America to be trained by the Empowerment Institute Certification program in New York City. There I learned a powerful and innovative social change program that I now bring to women throughout Nigeria in the hope of giving them a chance at a better life. Despite my academic achievement and level of exposure, it was after my experience with world Pulse that I knew the meaning of Internet and Web 2.0. The vision to help women and girls in my community that I have had for many years also came to fulfillment through my connection to the internet and World Pulse. I also became part of an International Initiative called IMAGINE after my Empowerment Certification. I am the Nigeria Program Manager of this initiative. You can see more of this on www.imagineprogram.net

Women Inspiration Development Center have led this customized empowerment workshops for about 650 women and girls in the community. These workshops are designed to help women and girls increase their self confidence and self-knowledge so that they can discover what’s important to them. After identifying their dreams, we teach them to translate this knowledge into a workable vision that they can manifest through an actionable growth strategy to attain their goals.

We have helped several women victims of domestic and sexual violence with one on one counselling. Many of these women were helped to start a small business and find a safe place for themselves and their children

We have led talks and enlightenment campaigns for over 3000 women, men, girls and boys in five rural communities, teaching them how to protect themselves from domestic and sexual violence.

As a result of my experience with WorldPulse and what I have achieved between 2009 to date of my connection with worldpulse and the global world through internet, I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that “access to internet is access to life”.

My most important project now is to have “Female only” cybercafés in all the states in Nigeria, an affordable and safe place for women and girls to have access to internet without fear or intimidation so that they can discover their potentials and maximize them.

For Nigerian women to take their rightful place in the leadership of the country they need to be well informed, economically and psychologically empowered. Access to internet and global network is going to achieve this.
