RAISING OUR VOICES AGAINST INSECURITY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN NIGERIA

On the new year's day when people woke up happily to say happy new year to one another, we woke to hear the crying of horror from a hotel not far from our home. The cleaners of the hotel was going round to clean the rooms to get them ready for their customers, what did they found in one of the room, the mutilated body of a lady. The breast was gone, her private part scraped, her eyes, fingers were all gone. These has been the stories for some time now especially when the election was around the corner. Women are the target of rituals for money and power. In my community now, you dare not spread your undies outside your room, the people that will take them away are always around the corner and the moment your undies are taken away , then you are dead person. In some state in Nigeria, women and girls would be accosted in corners to remove their pants and give it up at gun point. It has become a serious nightmare. Women and Girls are no more free, they walk about in fear. This is the reason why we felt that today to mark the International Women Day, we should raise our voices and call on government to put in place policies and law that give Nigeria women and safe environment to thrive. How can we balance the equality for better world in the face this kind of menace? We went out today to confront the ritualist, the unruly guys that are their agents in getting their preys.
