A Child's Spirit

As I sit here typing while watching my four-year-old play, my spirit is lifted as he acts with the freedom to be who he was created to be! Unfortunately in societies around our world, we are subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) taught to bury things, and only show what may be appropriate for a grown person. In working with children, however, letting my true self shine through has become easier not harder. I love that my son will jump up, begin twirling around with joy when he hears a song he loves. What wonder it would create if we, too, would not feel so self-conscious, disregard the looks of others, and twirl and jump for joy when we heard OUR favorite song?! Then, without notice, small, chubby arms embrace my neck with the enthusiasm we only see from children. He then goes back to his play as if it was nothing at all. What change would come in our world if we would embrace those we love, as a child does, not with stiff awkwardness we learn simply by growing older?

I will never grow tired of the simple, spontaneous honesty I experience with the young and young at heart. I only hope to keep scraping away at the film which covers the shiny, sparkly, glittery, child-like spirit I still have inside me.

As I said before, I am every becoming. I am grateful for the reminder today to put away the 'rules' imposed by this society.

I will jump and twirl when I hear the music.

Peace and Joy-

Michelle
