Girls Voices Team with participants of #GirlsInnovate:IWD 2019 event

In celebration of the International Women's Day Theme, 'Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change', Girls Voices Initiative engaged girls from Divine Vision Academy (Guyidna Community), in a tech innovation project designing and creating a Pi Photo Booth. The girls also learned game design using the Scratch Software. The girls performed remarkably for girls who had never used the computer before. Indeed, GIRLS CAN! As we encourage girls to innovate, we create #BalanceForBetter in the technology innovation space and how best to achieve this than to invest in girls - tomorrow's women.

Our organisation seeks to provide girls with education about their rights and empower the girls as advocates for the protection of girls' rights in society. We also provide the girls with technology and digital media skills with which they can explore platforms and spaces to amplify their voices and innovate solutions to critical social issues affecting them. We were excited that the theme this year is exploring smart and innovative approaches to gender equality and global change. And we are investing innovation skills into girls so they can inspire the change the world so desperately needs. Let's co-create impact together with and for girls! Happy International Women's Day 2019! Happy Women's History Month!

Hello Carolyn,

How are you doing, dear? Thanks so much for sharing your update. I haven't heard of Scratch software, but it sounds like the girls had an amazing introduction and learning experience there!

Sounds like a plan... I'm in!!!

Hope you're having a great day, and week!

Hi Jill,
I am doing great and I am happy to read your lovely comments on my post. I am sure happy to share some of the activities for the International Women's Day here in Nigeria. Scratch software provides a simple and engaging introduction to game design for kids and so we used it with the girls. It was such an amazing experience to see girls who have never touched a computer before get so engaged in innovating and designing. And it was so fulfilling to watch them bask in the beauty of what they had created.
Thank you for the well wishes as we have another engagement with women hairdressers coming up shortly too. Love,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Great to hear:-)

Thanks for the clarification on the software. It's sounds like a great option for what you needed, for sure. That would be rewarding... lucky you! Wish I could see more photos... did you post more on FB?

You're welcome. Oh, that sounds like fun, too. Looking forward to hearing about it.

Hope you're having a great day, and week!

Hello, Carolyn,

Congratulations on the success of your IWD event! I love the photo and the purple skirts.

Thank you for the update. You empower these girls not just by words, but also by training them to advance their career and knowledge on technology. Way to go!

Hi Karen,
Thank you for sharing in our IWD event! We all enjoyed the experience working with the girls to create and design their photo booth and to take all those exciting photos at the end. We are even more excited at their technology journey which has started from this event moving forward. The community school is currently fundraising to develop a computer centre and we have committed to provide free engaging computer training classes to promote STEM for the girls.
Again, thank you for celebrating with us, we celebrate you too! Love,
Carolyn

Wow, exciting times ahead! What a great impact this is to the lives of these girls and to their future. More women will be influencing the digital world. Thank you, Carolyn, for setting an example and for raising the bar high on how mentoring is done.

I honor you! I celebrate you. Thanks for sharing these wonderful news. Hugs!
