Thoughts on using the internet

Web 2.0 is a chance for me to get involved in something so big it can change the world! When I was younger I wasn't that interested in human rights or political issues. Now I am but I’m living in a small town in Mozambique yet with web 2.0 I can communicate with people all over the world, share ideas, learn, provide information, change peoples opinions and have my opinion changed. How great is that!
For me Web 2.0 isn’t a solution in itself, however it is and will be an amazing tool to enable women throughout the world to unite behind thecommon cause, that is the global empowerment movement. It can certainly decrease feelings of isolation, it can help us put problems into perspective, it can allow women to highlight serious human rights abuses but it can also deal with less serious issues that still impact negatively on our lives. Sharing problems, thoughts and ideas can enable women to find solutions, to spread these solutions rapidly to all corners of the world and then share successes. Using the web 2.0 tool will help us solve the problems we face.
Web 2.0 will empower me in that I will be able to share the issues that we women face here, the difficulties and hardships of course but also the stories of courage and achievement against the odds. I know lots of women in Mozambique use networking sites and I hope to create interest amongst them as to how we can improve opportunities for girls and women in education and work so that through economic independence they can be in a position to make good choices in their relationships. This for me is so important as I see women accepting abuse and betrayal as something normal, having relationships that cause suffering to other women and exposing themselves or being exposed to the risk of HIV/AIDS . I have many friends who are blind women who can’t yet access this medium and I want to be a voice for them so that others inderstand the difficulties they face and share in their fight for equality (maybe just through sharing information and moral support but finance would be very welcome!). Finally for me personally I want to be active in supporting other women, sharing the knowledge and hopefully wisdom and common sense I have gained through the years and contributing to improving womens lives in general and individually.
