Radcliffe Planning Seminar in Leadership Development in Global Women's Health

As part of its commitment to global health, Harvard is planning a Global Women's Health Leadership Development program led by Drs. Paula Johnson and Jennifer Leaning.

We will be hosting a two-day seminar at the Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Study to further develop the concept of a leadership development program in women’s health. It is an opportunity for experts from a wide variety of disciplines, organizations, and geographic regions to explore the challenges of designing a new Harvard-wide program aimed at developing and supporting a new cadre of leaders in global women's health.

All too often, health initiatives for women focus narrowly on one or two factors such as reproduction, maternal mortality, gender-based violence, or micro-enterprise. While approaches like these are important, taken one at a time, women will not achieve comprehensively good health that allows them to experience their full potential in families and communities. A comprehensive approach to women’s health that will yield lasting improvements requires leaders with broad views, who are well-versed in multiple disciplines, and who can mobilize and manage human, organizational, political and economic resources long enough to achieve measurable progress.

We are excited to share with the World Pulse community what we learn from these two days. Stay tuned.
