EQUIP # EMPOWER EDUCATE A SISTER WITH TECHNOLOGY

I am sure everyone agrees if I say when you educate a woman you educate the whole community and whole world. I have realised how most women have been empowered by technology especially facebook and what sapp and one woman I know is my own mum. I have then started to think and research if there is something that can help more women to be connected to the Web. I have realised through communication with my mum that she knows more than she did before she got connected. Therefore I want to set up a libraries within my community in Murewa where there will be computers and mobile Phones which will be run by women and benefit the entire community but benefit more women and girls to educate themselves. I hope to train them how to access information and basics of information technology.

I have grew up in this community where women and children are left behind and will get to hear things from husbands and fathers either from the city or township. I have also analysed that in most households, the husband or son will have a mobile phone or computer while women are in the fields farming and looking after household and children. There is a big margin of Web access and lack of it in communities depending where you are or background. So having libraries which can be pre booked fairly and allow everyone to be connected to the Internet and world news will bring vibrancy and equality, while enhancing women to the knowledge and skills they lack. So many women are abused everyday, so many girls get raped but they do not know their rights, the law that can help them or hear stories of the same experience and help available. By accessing the Web they can get to know all about it and seek justice and peace. Gender equality is a major issue which see women and girls looked down upon and sometimes see them left behind, Internet can see changes in that gender issue because women will know more than they did and become empowered to know what is right or wrong for them. I hope this project will get up and benefit those women who are not yet connected to the Web.

I am a woman who was once a girl in a deprived community. I have equipped myself academically and have empowered myself professionally and if there was no technology and being up to date with the world around me at the touch of button or click of a mouse away, I would not have had the passion to develop myself. I therefore want to take this passion further by bringing this kind of environment into the communities which I grew up to equip those women and girls out there. One day they will have the same knowledge and intellect as i am or more because they will be connected. I am right now seated and typing because I can so if they can do this one day, then will then smile and say women weave the Web.
