Hope for Kate

Following, a story which made me proud of my country, for once.

Nigerian woman Kate Omoreghe, was at risk of lapidation for having refused combined marriage with a man older than her, and having refused to convert to Islam.
Ten years ago, Kate escaped Nigeria after converting to Christianity and arrived to Italy where she was found guilty of drug peddling and sentenced to a 2 years and 6 months reclusion, despite having always rejected such accusation.
On September 5th, her debt with justice was paid, but she was issued an expulsion order.
Sending her back to Nigeria would have meant giving her up to the executioner, so thanks to her appeal for asylum and a general mobilization in favour of the woman, an on line petition requiring grant of political asylum collected 12.556 signatures which were brought forward the Italian President, Mr Giorgio Napolitano.
The mobilization was fruitful, indeed the expulsion order for Kate was finally suspended.
“From now on I want to live with no fear, thank you Italy”, she declared.
