To connect to the Internet

To connect to the Internet we need the following tools
• Computers or laptops (sets)
• A modem and telephone line (if you are using dial up access) or a data line of some sort (if we are not using dial up access)
• An Internet browser (software) and software to connect to the ISP, Email software, Plug-In software
• An account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
And for resources, we shall need both the non-electronic and electronic resources including CDs, Cameras, tables and chairs for trainings, projector etc
Our training goal will focus on empowering community members especially women and young girls with basic ICT and solutions; therefore there will be training of women and young girls on internet access and use: there will be free computer and internet access available at center for practice and research to help bridge the digital divide and provided new sources of information and knowledge.
Staff-refresher course and participant trainings: Staff will trained and also be given dozens of training modules, covering basic computer literacy, Web design, internet research, blogging, and wiki creation etc. Center offerings will be tailored to meet the needs of local women in the communities.
The introduction of ICTs in education has resulted in the further marginalization of those who are already underserved and/or disadvantaged. For example, women have had less access to ICTs and fewer opportunities for ICT-related training compared to men because of illiteracy and lack of education, lack of time, lack of mobility, and poverty. Girls have earlier curfew hours and domestic chore responsibilities which limit their access time, and local patriarchal beliefs tend to allow boys to dominate the computer lab environment.

Measures have been proposed to address this gender bias including encouraging schools to develop “fair use” policies in computer labs, conducting gender sensitivity sessions, and advocating for reducing the after-school duties of girls in their communities to give them more time to use the computer labaratory

we have provided young girls in the community with a wide range of trainings in computers use, camera use or video recordings. We have helped people to get familiar with the basics of computer skills, learn about the different social media sites, setting up e-mail accounts. Gave them skills-set and help them set up a Facebook accounts that in turn helped them connect with their families and friends both local and international. At the end of the day, It’s something to try for people who are passionate about helping others and just overall contributing to the growth of the community. Another hurdle is teaching people especially young girls and boys to become more confident in using the computer.
