Can online be more than escaping reality?

Often times, we see online sources as an escape to a reality. Whether it's social dating sites or online gaming, dependence on online sources, like all, can be pernicious.

However, that doesn't mean online sources can affect our real lives or \"offline lives\". Fair Women Fair World does exactly that.

Sustaining change is about passion and empowerment. Our project mission is to build on peace process between North and South Korea by empowering women and children through employment and education, directly affecting 330 000 people in the next 15 months: creating a fair world with fair women. The network and funding we are receiving makes it plausible launch our project by 2015.

The 10 week internship for deaf women in South Korea will establish a profit-driven financial model that both empowers women and sustains funding. The DREET Centre (Detection Research Education Equipment Training) that will be established will prevent and treat up to 50% of hearing impairment or 1.5M people in South Korea. It will further create a basis for research and development for the deaf offering education, treatment, and equipment. Finally, partial profit from the model will be used to finance 20 hearing aids to North Korean children every 3 months allowing access to education and a chance to end the cycle of poverty. Sharing the culture of deafness, women and children of both countries will take the first step towards peace.

We have already affected thousands of people through our projects, and are scaling to create a greater impact. In the next 15 months, this project will directly affect 120 000 women and 200 000 seniors in South Korea through the DREET Centre. In the next 3 years, it will affect 1.5M people through prevention and treatment, provide 360 hearing aids for North Korean children, and employ 20 additional women though the profit-driven financial model. Hwang Jin is a women who suffered from deafness. She faced isolation, but her entire \"life was changed\" after she was employed as a barista. We will touch the lives of each woman involved, as they are treated as individuals, not as statistics. These same women, will create ripples. Each child receiving hearing aids under the age of 3 can access to public education. We believe everyone has the right to education, and right to a voice.

Empowering women and children who are deaf through employment and education - that's a tangible offline-impact that was possible using online resources.
