Deewai's Journey to the World's Pulse

My personal vision is to creatively contribute to my generation in a big way. I see a lot of potential in my daily life. These are not merely potentials for my personal development but opportunities to help, support and stir positive change. I recognize these when I talk to a school head who leads her school with integrity, or the group of women who makes dried squid for a living, or when I write essays about issues which move my soul.

I would like to play a major role in an international movement for positive change. Currently, I am part on a youth movement and I am proud to share that I am actively involved. I facilitated the first online discussion, successfully organized last year's World Youth Day for Democracy, organized the first regional group page in Asia, wrote essays, did interviews for the newsletter and many more. But I know that there is more that I can do if given the chance. I would like to see the world and share my unique insights and use my speaking prowess as a platform for the good.

But I also want to be a better daughter, sister, wife, friend and mentor that what I am at the present.

I think what a lot of us women share is that innate yearning to be greater than who we are at the present.
And we would like to achieve that whilst being a reliable mother, wife or sister and daughter. That is our personal vision.

There are, however, limitations. Realities and constraints. There are also those who will discourage our wild dreams.

This is the reason why I am answering this assignment although it is long overdue. I took charge of the planning workshops for public education in a province and a municipality and the workload did not allow me to dutifully submit my assignments. But I don't care. I would like to answer the question. Because the world can be harsh and people don't often take the time out to ask about your personal vision or your journey. I submitted Assignment 1 yesterday and one person commented and appreciate what I wrote. That's more than enough. I will get by.

I am drawn to World Pulse because I feel stronger when I read other women's stories. I am drawn to women whose challenges are far more overwhelming that what I was given. Yet they remain kind, honest and beautiful. I am drawn to World Pulse (thanks to AWID which included information about World Pulse in one of their newsletters months back) because when I read \"No one speaks for me. I speak for myself\" I am reminded that I matter.

The past few days have been tough for me as a daughter, as a wife and as development worker. But answering these questions, going through the beautifully written readings and finding myself in my own responses is a priceless blessing.
