Mi propia experiencia de empoderamiento digital: ¿POR QUÉ COMENCÉ DIARIO IGUALDAD?

Les comparto mi propia experiencia de empoderamiento digital. Hace unas semanas comencé mi blog, Diario Igualdad. Aquí va mi primer post sobre porque lo comencé. Como verán mi meta es poder traducir temas personales y sociales que vemos y nos afecta con un análisis desde la perspectiva de género. A través del internet he podido lanzar este medio digital para poder compartir mis reflexiones con el mundo virtual.

¿POR QUÉ COMENCÉ DIARIO IGUALDAD?

Porque es importante.
Comencé Diario Igualdad porque tengo la convicción que la igualdad de género es necesaria para alcanzar la justicia social. Todas las personas tenemos los mismos derechos humanos. Sin embargo por desigualdades estructurales, incluyendo la desigualdad por razones de género, las mujeres tienen más barreras para acceder y ejercer estos mismos derechos.
Por esa razón, creo que la igualdad de género es algo que comienza desde el nivelpersonal y se transfiere al nivel social. En las palabras de Simone de Beauvoir, el feminismo es una forma de vivir individualmente y de luchar colectivamente. Los cambios estructurales no van a tener un efecto transformador si las personas que ponen en práctica esos cambios no tienen esa visión de género.
Creo que la igualdad de género no es un tema sencillo, en blanco y negro. Es una discusión en constante evolución con muchos puntos de vista. Diario Igualdad es importante porque permite un espacio para esta discusión a nivel público donde podamos cuestionar, expresarnos, y construir en sociedad.
Porque no había en México.
Crecí desde la primaria y estudié parte de mi carrera en Estados Unidos. Entonces sigo regularmente los medios y la política de ahí. Pero más allá de seguir las noticias, en estos temas que me apasionan de género, feminismo, empoderamiento de las mujeres, me encontraba siempre leyendo blogs y artículos en inglés.
En contraste, en México, aún trabajando en el medio de los derechos humanos de las mujeres y colaborando con organizaciones de la sociedad civil, me costó más trabajo encontrar estos espacios. Claro que existen algunos, está CIMAC, increíbles periodistas como Lydia Cacho y Sanjuana Martínez, los blogs de GIRE y Mala Madre en Animal Político, Luchadoras un programa de Rompeviento, comunidades cómo Epic Queen yMujeres Construyendo, entre otros.
Diario Igualdad es una plataforma digital donde se podría difundir los espacios que ya existen, tener reflexiones desde diferentes puntos de vista, y llegar a un público más amplio. Creo que es importante que exista Diario Igualdad en español y que contenga voces de América Latina. Nuestras experiencias cambian según la comunidad en la que vivimos y es importante expresarnos. Sin embargo, Diario Igualdad no pretende ser representativa de todas las mujeres. No estamos hablando en nombre de nadie más.
Porque es hora.
Si la igualdad de género es transversal a todas las áreas de nuestras vidas, necesitamos un formato entendible y accesible para leer y escuchar sobre estos temas. No limitado a un sector específico, no limitado a lenguaje académico.
Yo, y estoy segura que muchas otras personas, quieren un espacio así; para saber que está pasando en la actualidad política y social desde una visión de género y porque es relevante a nuestras vidas; para reflexionar desde nuestras experiencias personales cómo mujeres jóvenes y aprender de nosotras mismas; para enterarse de eventos, cursos, talleres, artículos y saber cómo participar.
Diario Igualdad es un proyecto que apenas va arrancando. ¡Participa en estos primeros pasos!

My own digital empowerment experience: WHY DID I START EQUALITY BLOG?

I share with you my own experience with digital empowerment. Only a few weeks ago I started my blog, Equality Blog. Here is my first post about why I started it. As you can see, my goal is to be able to translate personal and social topics that we see and that affect us with an analysis from the gender perspective. Through the internet I have been able to use this digital means to be able to share my reflections with the virtual world.

WHY DID I START EQUALITY BLOG?

Because it is important.

I started Equality Blog because I believe that gender equality is necessary to achieve social justice. All the people have the same human rights. However due to structural inequalities, including the inequality due to gender reasons, women have more barriers for access and achieve these same rights.

For this reason, I believe that gender equality is something that starts at the personal level and it is transferred to the social level. In the words of Simone de Beauvoir, feminism is a way to live individually and to fight collectively. The structural changes will not have a transformation effect if the people that put into practice those changes do not have that gender vision.

I believe that gender equality is not a simple topic, in white and black. It is a discussion in constant evolution with many points of view. Equality Blog is important because it allows a space for this discussion at the public level where we can question, express ourselves and build in society.

Because there was none in México.

I grew up from elementary school and studied part of my career in the United States. Therefore I follow regularly its news and politics. But more than following the news, in these topics that I love about gender, feminism, women empowerment, I found myself always reading blogs and articles in English.

On the other hand, in México, even working in the women human rights environment and helping organizations in the civil society, it took more effort to find these spaces. Of course that some exist, we have CIMAC, incredible reporters like Lydia Cacho and Sanjuana Martínez, GIRE and Bad Mother in Political Animal blogs, Fighters, a Rompeviento show, communities like Epic Queen and Building Women, among others.

Equality Blog is a digital platform where we could promote spaces that already exist, have reflections from different points of view, and reach a more ample public. I believe that it is important that Equality Blog exists in Spanish and that it has Latin America’s voices. Our experiences change according to the community where we live in and it is important to express ourselves. However, Equality Blog does not pretend to be a representative of all women. We are not talking in the name of anybody else.

Because it is time.

If the gender equality is transversal in all areas of our lives, we need an understandable and accessible format to read and hear about these topics. Not limited to a specific sector, not limited to an academic language.

I, and I am sure that many other people, want a space like this, to know what is going on in the political and social reality from a gender vision and because it is relevant to our lives; to reflect from our own personal experiences like young women and to learn from ourselves, to find out about events, classes, trainings, articles and to learn how to participate.

The Equality Blog is a project that is barely starting. Participate in these first steps!
