First story
Rural women in Limpopo which is found in South Africa find it easier for them have access to Information and Communicatio Technology (ICT) through using Telecentre services.
I interpret this as ICT empowerment because in these centres women obtain computer training which provides acquisitionog various s of various I CT skilld that enable them to become employable.
Once a woman is employed emancipation takes place in her life since she becomes psychologically free.
As financial strength constraints are reduced, a woman becomes a potential himan being who can pass acquired ICT skills to her children as well as relatives. In this regard technological innovation can be passed to the whole nation as they say educate a woman educate the nation.
Mankweng rural women in Mankweng Telecentre attend Adult Basic Education and Trainong (ABET) lessons of which is combined with Telecentre utilization. They practice what they have learned from ABET by exercising their computer skills in the centre.
ÇHALLENGES
The common challenges faced by rural women in their ICT centres of access and services consist of the following:
-congested wheelchair unfriendly user for the diabled
-theft
-lack of Internet
Lack of availability of Internet in a centre cripples ICT empowerment . Therefore, development in ICT access an services become impossible for rural women and everybody else.
