Protesting Americans Are Not True Democrats

No matter how shocking an electoral result is the people are to be led by the Elected; going by true democracy.

Democracy by definition means the government by the people. That means that all the people should be able to have their say in one way or another in everything that affects their lives. Dictionaries usually say that this right can either be exercised directly (by all members of a community having the possibility to enter personally, without mediators, their position on a particular issue into the decision making process - modern technology is able to provide this possibility for increasingly larger and larger communities), or through representatives (members of legislative bodies). This second arrangement is then called Representative Democracy.

It is true that going by Rule by the People; democracy should protect the people, include citizen’s access to the opportunity; the government should respect human rights and the rule of law.

Democracy is different people having different ideas. Where persons are not able to express their own individual ideas, it is not democracy. If I have my own ideas, and I cannot express them, within reasonable limits of common ethical standards for the given cultural group, that is not democracy. There must be some minimal cultural standard. The standard must not be too narrow or too broad. You cannot allow persons to say and do distasteful or horrible things, but you also cannot restrict them having views.

It is quite true that Hillary Clinton did not win on Tuesday. And here is what must be said of American politics in 2016: they elected Donald J. Trump president of the United States of America. They did this even knowing exactly what he stood for, exactly what he had threatened to do, exactly what kind of man he was. And also if Hilary had won on the other hand will Trump supporters have protested? Democracy says the shots are called after the elections and the winner stays. Like President Obama who publicly said Trump was unfit to be president all Hilary supporters should welcome the new president and give him a hand shake like President Obama.

Now who is to be blamed? None other than the Americans themselves and by democracy whoever is elected becomes the president. And been people who preach the message of Democracy more than any other people of other nations it is time to accept this fact and live by it. Donald J. Trump wasn’t elected as president by non-Americans and if he was elected by such a majority it only goes to show that a majority of Americans loved him after all and believed in his views and ways. And may have looked beyond Trump’s harsh and insulting words and seen a hope in him; hope to be led by the truth, diligence and friendship.

Furthermore does Trump’s success mean the work to fight racism; sexism and all the many fouls against human rights Americans all stand for didn’t get a great impact on the World’s most powerful nation? Does this mean Americans who have fought for humanities and the holistic rights of all humans have failed?

My answer to this is NO. The activists and all Americans, Trump inclusive did not for one minute fail. Yes it is true that Trump out rightly said he would send back all immigrants when he is president. But have we all for once thought that the first immigrant is his wife Melania the new First Lady and going by his words it means she will be the first to be deported. She in her speech said she was going to fight against Cyber Bullying and work with women and children. Are all these very contrasting views from her husband the new president of America? Would her first individual to mentor and train against cyber bullying be her husband the president? Maybe she has differing opinions about certain things her husband stands for and just maybe she will be that woman who will fight for the rights of the immigrant American.

Any governmental system is fine if the people subjected to this system are happy with it; except if by protesting they are saying their governmental system which has been existing for years is not fine. And this will bring about a call for concern.

“Trust the people” is a great old political slogan, and it’s at times such as these that you have to cling on to it. If you believe in democracy, you have to believe in the people, and you have to bring yourself to believe in Donald Trump, or at least the redemptive power of democracy.
