50 For A Balance

My mom is 50 today the 8th of March 2019!!! And what better theme for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration than #BalanceforBetter. I usually tell my friends my mom is a real woman because she was born on IWD. And yet again this year confirms it as she turns 50 on a year the theme is #BalanceforBetter. As a gender activist it resonates with our advocacy for a 50/50 balance for both gender on the table and not having one on the table and the other on the menu. To commemorate this year's International Women's Day and my mother's 50th Anniversary celebration I am dedicating this poem titled "50 For A Balance"  to every woman and man, girl and boy on why we should equally share the table and not have one party on the table and another on the menu.

50 For A Balance

Boys and Girls

We are created

Born with unique abilities

Distinct by body organs

Men and Women

We grow up to be

With varying exposure to opportunities

Yet serving the same communities and people

50 percent boys, 50 percent girls

50 percent men, 50 percent women

Inclusive, equal and equitable

Sharing the same opportunities

Equally contributing to our communities

Equally making the decisions

Equally achieving our shared goals

50 for a Balance.
