If you knew that a meal from a restaurant contained three days' worth of sodium, would you still order it? Eighty-five out of 102 meals from 17 popular chain restaurants have at least this much sodium, according to a report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer watchdog group.
At Red Lobster, for instance, the Admiral's Feast with a Caesar salad, mashed potatoes, a biscuit, and lemonade contains 7,106 mg of sodium--nearly three times the FDA's 2,400 mg recommended daily limit. Chili’s, the Olive Garden, and Kentucky Fried Chicken were just a few of the other chains singled out in the report.
Eating such a large load of sodium is linked not only to high blood pressure but also to heart failure in certain susceptible individuals. And children with sodium-heavy diets may develop early cardiovascular disease.
