The Internet, My teacher.

I am a woman aged 39. For the past 12 years I have been working in the area of HIV and AIDS. Our organization works with children and women that are living with HIV and also women in sex work. When the organization started I was a volunteer visiting women and children in their homes. I did not possess formal qualifications for the work I do. Through the internet I was able to gain knowledge and information on how to do my job better..
5 years after our organization was set up, we saw the need to reach out to women in sex work as we saw the lives that children were living. Again this was an area that we knew nothing upon. The internet helped with researching of similar projects and learning how they were implementing their work. The internet has been my classroom and my teacher.
Currently I am the organization’s director. Whenever I need to learn about anything from recruiting of staff to skills in proposal writing the internet is my first port of call.

When looking for funders for our work, we search on the internet. Recently I managed to attend the Children’s Symposium in Melbourne Australia. I managed to apply for sponsorship through the internet.
Yes indeed. There is a wealth of Knowledge which once tapped into can be used to change communities. No one now has an excuse for not knowing what other women are doing to overcome their challenges. The internet should be for all. thank you to all the experts that work tirelessly to make resources available online.

Women especially in Africa are quick to pass on knowledge. The more women that are empowered the better. Women are the ones with the job of teaching children, when they are empowered they can teach their children especially girl children to take pride in who they are and take their place in the world. When families are transformed it becomes easier to transform communities.
