Introducing myself and my journal

About Me:
Hi everyone! I'm an athlete and graduate student in Sports and Exercise Psychology. I would like to help encourage women to participate in sport. I would also like to help change the gender stereotypes and help reduce the barriers against female participation.

I have always been active in sports but a comment a male acquaintaince made to me last year really ignited my passion to bring awareness to this issue and to change the views of others. I was watching the 2010 Olympic women’s hockey game where they won GOLD with a bunch of other grad students, and few male students made comments that women’s hockey shouldn’t be in the Olympics and they were belittling women’s overall athletic abilities and their participation in sports. They were marginalizing women to the ‘traditional sports’ that women should only participate in. I was disgusted by these views, and I confronted them about it.

I would like to help change the world!
