Un accident de la route (ou accident sur la voie publique : AVP) est un choc qui a lieu sur le réseau routier entre un engin roulant (automobile, moto, vélo, etc.) et toute autre chose ou personne et qui engendre des blessures humaines et/ou des dégâts matériels. De nombreux facteurs contribuent aux risques de collision tel que type de véhicule, la vitesse de circulation, l’environnement routier, l'expérience du conducteur, le sexe mais aussi son comportement et son état physique.
Selon l'OMS les accidents de la route dans le monde tuent chaque année environ 1,3 million de personnes et font de 25 à 50 millions de blessés

A roadway accident (or an accident on a public road: APR) is a collision between a vehicle (automobile, motorcycle, bicycle, etc.) and another object or person, which takes place on a highway, and which causes injuries and/or property damage. A number of factors contribute to the risk of a car collision such as the type of vehicle, its velocity, the road environment, the driver’s experience, the driver’s sex, but also his or her behavior and physical condition.
According to WHO, roadway accidents kill about 1.3 million people in the world each year and injure 25 to 50 million people.
