"VOF Week 4: (Change Your Mind)

People are different from countries to countries according to their culture, ethnicity and religion around the world. Some people suffer and are dominated because of their social and religious background. Some people are afraid of losing their culture and stop expressing or raising their voice. And their voice is not being counted and consider as deprived people. Moreover, as a developing country, a vast amount of Bangladeshi believes that, girls will be spoiled and separated from her culture, if they continue higher education at college or university.
According to the Muslim culture, girls have to maintain hizab. Some people think that if a girl wants to study, she has to sacrifice her hizab otherwise; outside world will not accept her. And also the girl might be neglected for being a religious minded. These are the reasons many guardians are frightened that they will lose their religious value due to their girl’s education. Therefore, they stop their daughters’ education. A lot of girls are being the victims of this misconception and stepping behind to develop them. As a result, the world loses many intelligent girls who might have knowledge that no one has.
I have been observing this social inequality from my childhood and trying to be an epitome in front of them who do not allow their girls to study because of hizab. I do not believe that they are wrong by maintaining all the religious rules and regulation, to be perfect followers of any religions people often avoid doing many things regarding their social and religious values. However, as a Muslim girl I can articulate that we are encouraged to study. It is important to study to be an active member of my society.
I have been maintaining hizab since my school life and nothing stopped me for my hizab. Now I am going to enter at an international university, it is great to study with the people from different countries. It not only is developing my skills, also exploring my knowledge. Universities are the place where students can encounter with intellectuals, it universities are respected places to me. It was not possible for me if I did not continue my study. Therefore, I also need to be a part of something where I will not be criticized and disrespected for my hizab.
Even though, it does not seem a great trouble; however, consistent with my personal point of view, I cannot tolerate my fellow mates’ discrimination about their study. There is nothing to advertise, there is nothing to show but there is something to prove that education is for all. In this circumstance, I do not prefer forcing people to establish my idea instead, I prefer to be an example so, and that people can see their girls will not have to sacrifice anything to continue their study. There are numerous girls like me keeping their study up worldwide, I was inspired by some of them and I think this is my turn to take their place. There are so many things happening in the world and if we remain the same without education like our previous generation, we will be like dead leafs.
My vision is to see all deprived girls studying. Mentioned thoughts above are just one fact which is most likely invisible to everyone. There are many problems in front of girls and make them unable to study. “Education for all” will not be successful, if still there is discrimination between religions, races and ethnicity.
