VOICE OF THE VOICELESS

Web 2.0 is a plat form on which digital media, social media and social networking all happen. What excites me most about web 2.0 is that it makes a citizen journalist become four in one i.e. writer, editor, publisher and distributor of her own work. It allows you to connect, express and transform yourself globally by providing the opportunity for you to develop networks and collaborate with other change makers around the world. Through web 2.0 women voices are amplified: cultural barriers are broken, taboo subjects are made public, untold stories about the plight of women in different communities are exposed.

Web 2.0 has ‘broken the silence’. It provides a voice to the voiceless by allowing women to speak for themselves. When women report and write the news, they are most likely to talk about issues that affect them directly.
Web 2.0 has strengthened collaboration between women and accelerated the exchange of working models for women empowerment. Women connect with others through their vision and stories that provides an opportunity for learning and the empowerment of others.

Web 2.0 is used to tap new sources of innovations and solutions that provide the key to solving global problems which are affecting women and has created opportunities for women needs and solutions to be heard globally. It is interactive and provides you with immediate feed backs to your ideas.

The tools of web 2.0 will be empowering to me because I will use them to amplify my voice in my community and the world at large. It will be a medium for me to expose stories and cultural barriers that affect women negatively in my society.

In addition, these tools will give me the opportunity to act as the voice for the voiceless. Through this medium, their ideas, stories and possible solutions to their plight will be brought to the lime light.

Moreover, these tools will be used to build the capacity of women in my community. I will use it to strengthen their desire to speak out in order to break those negative and stereotype gender norms in the society.

In the same vein, these tools will be used to raise awareness and bring men to champion the fight to end all forms of violence against women and girls the world over. It will be used to lobby political leaders to change policies that do not favor women.

Likewise, I will use these tools to expose my projects geared towards bringing equity, equality and empowerment of women. Also, it will be a medium where I can use to raise funds to support my project and contribute to other global ideas so that women will be treated more fairly the world over.

Finally, these tools will give me the opportunity to start global conversation on hidden issues, meet new people, get new ideas and get new solutions to old problems.
