Rural women of Itombwe get involved in protecting their forests

English translation by community member KBurns.

GAMADI, which is a not-for-profit agricultural group of mothers working for the development of Itombwe, is based in the east of DR Congo and is a member of SAFECO (Synergy of Congolese Women's Associations). GAMADI has boldly decided to raise awareness among its women members of the importance of preserving the forests in their villages.

After completing online training in May 2014, GAMADI's members decided that it would be useful to raise awareness so that women can also get involved in protecting their forests in a sustainable way. The lives of the women in this region effectively depend on their forests. In December 2014, the people who live in Mwana valley in Ngomiano near Ebeka mountain and who are involved in Itombwe's Basimuniaka group took great pleasure in participating in these events.
