LIGHT IS BASIC PROJECT PROGRESS

On 10th of August 2012, officials from YAWI went all the way from Nairobi to Elimamen , Kajiado district at 79 Kms in remote area to meet two groups of Massai women ( Each group having 30 members).
The aim of the visit was to go and distribute solar lanterns to those women. This is one of the YAWI programs called Light is basic. YAWI intends to distribute solar lanterns to almost all Massai women in Kajiado district and elsewhere in order to help them to reduce the cost of kerosene they put in traditional light to light up the house .
This solar lantern is environmental friendly because, it is not like the traditional light they use which produces smoke which is not good for their health.
It is also economical because they do not buy anymore kerosene.
These lanterns are good for:
• Lightening up the house ,
• Helping women milk the cows evening ,
• Helping children to do their homework and review their lessons at home
• Helping women to do their household evening without fearing darkness

2.Adopt group of women to sponsor we are targeting 5000 women in rural Masai area and 5000 in south Sudan
3.travel over to volunteer with us for a period of four to 25 weeks.

5. make friends by connecting with a rural woman through the program buy her a lantern and connect with her through yawi
