The Change I wish to be and See: Knowledge, Resources, Social Change

The Change I wish to be and See

Change seems like an intimidating word, since it sounds big and revolutionary…C-H-A-N-G-E! But when I think of sayings like, “Be the change you want to see in the world...” I’m consoled that we can each effect change by starting from within ourselves and spreading out to our communities and the world.

The challenges I face in creating change in my world are mainly two-fold: acquiring the specialized knowledge and getting the resources needed to actually realize projects or take action.

I’m on the right track with all the resources modern technology has to offer. Besides formal education in school and efforts to tap from the wit of those who’ve trailed the path before me, I don’t hesitate to use ‘my last dime’ to benefit from online resources which are almost free as compared to if the knowledge offered were to be gotten by means of traditional education.

In addition to free online university courses are online communities, with some offering training sessions such as Pulse wire! With training from World Pulse, I’d be able to overcome challenges of technical skills needed to effect change, especially in the field of women’s development.

With regards to resources, human resources are not quite an issue for me since I’ve encountered a lot of inspiring and competent people in the course of my career, and continue to meet them as the days go by! As for material resources, I’ve got some handicap there, but I believe things would fall into place with time.

When I think of what I’d be able to do, if I could turn around and work on a personal computer without any distractions; if I had multimedia equipment to produce quality audio, video and print publication, it amazes me…I dread moments when I have to go a distance to have computer access, and especially when the internet connection is down to zero…yet I have an inspiring story within me dying to be let out! For the moment though, I keep doing what I enjoy doing best in spite of the challenges, because I know where there is a will, there’s a way, and someday I’ll surely overcome.

Benefiting from existing resources to share ideas, updates and network, I do these on social community sites like Facebook, Tweeter, LinkedIn and of course, Pulsewire! These sites have different built-in technical resources to enable one do different things and tasks. What’s peculiar about Pulsewire though is access to portals for Resource Exchange, Action Alerts and Global Events, which create an edge in information and opportunity sharing. I intend to use these in the best possible way.

With the process of acquiring knowledge, meeting with the possibility of accessing needed resources, I’m positive that I’m geared for a peaceful revolution…that of empowering lives through the sharing and accessing of much-needed information, as well as enabling others to tell their stories in a manner that would impact those who hear it.
