Parable

Long time ago.
Sitting by the window;
looking through the glass, at my sixth grade class.
SHE came to me, unnoticed, sliding through desks and chairs,
avoiding perfect geometry, lines and squares,
and softly said:
"Surrender to me".
Startled and scared to turn around, to see who would I find.
Unbearable feeling; I just couldn't stay!
So I escaped and flew away.

Time passed by,
and at my college twenty-some years;
wings and hopes lost through time, accompanied by cigarettes, rum and wine.
"Getting by" and "going with the flow" but chained to the ground.
I heard at my door a menacing knock and the familiar sound,
of a whisper:
"Surrender to me".
Tighten more the lock and key, I don't even want to see!
Want to stay safe were I am, as "life should be, for someone like me".
What will THEY say, if I dare to disagree?

Stumbled and fell.
Lost loved ones and lovers;
(some good habits and a bunch of hair!), I just sat there,
in the middle of the dark room I stood still.
When a sudden rush to my veins, an impulse, a will,
resounded in my ears:
"Surrender to me".
I ran to the door, opened it, for this was my very own decision!
Could SHE just appear now like this, with such precision?
"Whoever you are unveil to me!" I shouted with might.
With a clad of light, no disguise at sight,
stood MY TRUE SELF, smiling with pure joy.

And while SHE embraced me with passion, such as the mother to the prodigal daughter.
Tears of atonement rolling down my face, as I grasp what's to be free,
My lips simply babbled and mutter,
"I Surrender to THEE".
