Bad way of punishing children

Her name is Angel KABULO, an eleven year – old young girl. She was completely beaten by her own mother with a stone on the head until she had to seek medical attention; reason? The little Angel had refused to draw water for laundry when she was sent by her mother. The witnesses, who are Kabulo’s neighbors couldn’t stand the scenario, they intervened in an effort save Angel but the worst had already been done.
The stone used by Angel’s mother injured her on the head, following the seriousness of the injury; she was quickly taken to a neighborhood health center where she underwent a surgical operation. Angel’s mother has since run away just after mistreating her own daughter.
Africans regard their children as wealth and they can get as many as they want. Much as having many children may in some way make some parents lose a sense of responsibility on their children, we should agree that the punishment given to a child may have negative consequences on the child’s wellbeing. In case of abuse, the victim should be able to go to the appropriate court that will assess the degree of the offence. People perpetrating assault and battery should definitely be punished by the law, according to the degree of harm inflicted.
