Introducing myself and my journal: The Visible Woman

About Me: When I was little, I decided it was pretty much safer if I remained invisible. Otherwise I was a target. Or, humiliated for being female. (What’s not okay about being born a girl?) Somewhere along the way, I made a contract with myself to remain invisible. I managed to survive. But it doesn’t work. I can’t earn a living if people can’t see me, nor can I have friends, or be anyone who is relevant within my family or my community. So, I’m breaking the code. I’m tearing up the contract. I am hereby announcing to myself and to the universe at large that I am now front and center, ready to be seen and heard.

I stand for embodied solutions to violence, especially in the home, because if its acceptable there, its acceptable everywhere. Circles of connections in a matrix of love echo into healing...

I'm accepting short little gems from women all over the world from now until Dec. 15, 2013: that Moment of Clarity when you knew beyond all doubt that even if you had no idea how to make it happen, enough was enough, you were getting out, come what may...

If you have been there, done that, writing your story is not only welcome - its vital to finding closure, to sharing about how to recognize the red flags, it helps other women get out so that they need not suffer what you did!

This is truly tapping into the mystery of life!

    Dear Gabrielle,

Your journal makes me want to say "YAY!!!!!" I am so glad you have reached out and joined the World Pulse community. Your work is extraordinarily powerful and important. As the confidante of a woman who recently left an abusive marriage of 20 years, I congratulate you on your commitment to helping women break free and come out of the shadows, beyond shame, into the light! I thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Though my friend is travelling through darkness right now, mired in Oregon's crazy divorce process and doing what she can to protect her kids against a system that seems to think kids should be forced to spend time with abusive fathers, she knows she is exactly where she needs to be--she had that "Moment of Clarity" of which you write, and there is no turning back.

I want to share with you a link that will give you a great introduction to World Pulse and all it has to offer you in helping to get your Word Out:

Again, welcome, Gabrielle. I wish you the best of luck with your project and am looking forward to reading its great success.

Susan thank you for your warm welcome!

please do send people to for a 3 min. video about the project. They can download the flyer from there, or go to the 'herstory submissions' page from the drop down menu under 'share' if they are ready to contribute a short piece for the anthology. Please feel free to print the flyer and post it wherever you think it might meet the eyes of the wise women who have been there and have wisdom to share about it. the local dv center, the health food store, women's health centers... Meanwhile, here's a little more info about It:

The Write to Heal Anthology, a not-for-profit book of Aha! Moments by women who have wisdom to share about getting out of abusive situations, is to be published in January in support of the second global 1 Billion Rising Celebration in Feb. 2014, to raise awareness about violence against women. Our third quarter deadline is Oct. 31st. our final deadline is Dec. 15, 2013!

    in appreciation, gabrielle
