Introducing the Glittering Gem: Anjana Luitel



Young, proactive, passionate, multi -tasked, visionary are some of the adjectives to describe the 24 year old Anjana Luitel –the unique gem from Nepal. She has a passion for youth, women and environment conservation issues.



Anjana is currently a Masters’ Student of Human and Natural Resource Studies Centre at Kathmandu University writing a thesis on “Can landownership be one of the determinants of women empowerment?”
The Nepal youth activist and women’s advocate is also a poet, a writer and a consultant to many youth organizations and NGOs. She has been the main brain behind many youth initiatives and organizations in Nepal: the founding Vice chairperson of Blue hub -working for anti plastic bag campaign of her University and with EnvOrgs, a consortium of different organizations in Nepal.



She is currently working for a cultural conservation program of wetland “nagdaha ko Yatra”. Besides Yatra, she is involved in “Raksha Nepal” - an Organization which works for the rehabilitation and reintegration of the conflict induced commercial sex worker”. She is also helping in analyzing government policy regarding women's rights and implementation and intends to challenge and change policies that work against women.
Again, she is helping with the documentation of “ACT NOW” campaign which focuses on civic responsibility and rights of the citizen of Nepal. Besides she is volunteering in online community nabuur.com
Despite her major challenge of “sustaining the change that she has tried to make in the society,” she dreams of becoming “a successful writer and a social activist”.
