A review of "The Eve Chronicles" by Diane DeVillers

My old friend Nancy gave me this wonderful review of my book "The Eve Chronicles" by Diane DeVillers, I now have two reviews which make the book more sellable. She and I worked together during the eighties at a nursing home, she was the activity director and I was her assistant. She taught me so much about how to keep the elderly interested in activities.

She had me do short works about the lives of so many of our residents. To this day I have them and from time to time I read them about their lives during the beginning of the 1900's, in the day where living in Oregon meant they had father's that worked as loggers one woman said her dad was a powder monkey, the loggers who used dynamite in certain situations to take trees down.We had sing-alongs, we played bowling, bingo, and other games, we helped them write letters, we listened to their stories. we gardened out back on the patio using raised beds so the people in wheelchairs could still garden. We took outings out into the community, and we read them the newspaper and chapters of books every day. Nancy taught me many good life skills which I used years later when I worked with adults with disabilities. The culture of acceptance and giving people dignity has served me well this day. She was one of my mentors and helped me grow and know my strengths as an independent woman.

We both loved literature and to this day talk about the books we were reading. She still lives over on the Oregon coast and her farm style home is filled to the brim with eclectic furnishing, she collects teacups, plants, cats, dogs, paintings. Whenever we get over to Yachats where we stay at the Adobe which is perched on the Oregon coast, we stop by her house. She's one of those friends that when we get together it's like no time has gone by, we are sisters, we are like Joni Mitchell sings about "Ladies of the Canyon." She was one of the first people who encouraged me to write. She is still working as an assisted living activities director but has recently earmarked one day a week to do her own writing. Currently, she is working on a book about ghosts that we all live around every day. Her narrative style brings the reader into the moment and describes the sights, sounds, smells of the scenes her characters are in.

Here is the review my friend Nancy gave me on my author page of my Amazon page:

In the interest of full disclosure, I must say at the outset that I know the writer of The Eve Chronicles. That said, the impressions I experienced reading this work gave me insights and pleasures I did not expect! I was enchanted by her descriptions and details of the forester’s life I had not given thought to. I’d been aware of the remarkably hard work, of the constant exposure to (inclusion in) the demanding and beautiful natural world. I had forgotten, however, that to live in the wilderness means to live there at night too. I found myself mesmerized by the beautiful nocturnal descriptions in From the Waters of Coyote Springs ---the sounds and images gleaned from inside a small tent, a tent that often felt to me like a personal space capsule, a private bubble that this remarkable sojourner inhabited at night, reflecting on her life, on the forest mysteries, reading, journaling, quietly playing her guitar, occasionally communing with another soul. Some of my favorite passages and moments take place inside that wondrous, womb-tent at night. The tent was a nursery-place for the formation of river dreams, vision, and a future self. A place of pure magic, that tent. I had never realized what the tent had been for her. ‘Eve’ was in the making; as a reader, I got to share that naissance. In the subsequent two novellas, Felix and Eve and The Arrangement, the evolution and maturing continues. Water and rivers are still the conveyors for the journey and form some of my favorite passages, but for me, the revelations from within the tent are the lasting images of The Eve Chronicles."

Nancy always made me look good, thank you, dear friend.
