THE SURVIVAL OF THE FUTURE CHAMPIONS

My mother, Millicent Kyeraa who is now 62 years always told me the story of that only child and daughter who was born Pre term by a 28year old mother. She told me the story of the struggle that this mother who hadalso lost the dear husband through a motor accident just before the birth of her daughter went through when she had to cope with a pre term baby and the pain emanating from the sudden demise of her beloved husband.

This story with the same background has been reoccurring over the years and that seem to ignite some level of fear and anxiety about motherhood and childbirth.

The mother in question is my biological mother and that pre term baby is l Gloria Anim who by the grace of God has now attained the age of 34.

The deeply troubling ordeal that this courageous mother of mine went through and then succeeded in making me who l am today has always ignited a resolve in me to embark on a journey to put in an effort in helping to completely eliminate the incidence ofmaternal and child mortality rates in Ghana especially in the rural parts of our country.

2018, l see as an eventful year because my husband and l will be launching an organization with the name Center for Peace and Development Africa (CPDA) in Ghana.

This Community Based Organization will seek to among other things engage in advocacy for safe motherhood by improving health care delivery amongpregnant mothers.

Through the CPDA initiative, l will be embarking on resource mobilization in getting incubators in rural areas within a cluster of communities so that pre term babies will be taken care of.

This same resource mobilization will seek to help provide some basic assistance to rural nursing mothers so that during their pregnancy period, they will live a healthy life which in turn will positively impact on the unborn child.

Lastly, my initiative will tackle the menace of teenage mothers. I intend to focus on educating them to beware of the consequences of premarital sex and for those who find themselves in it, l intend to seriously educate them never to attempt illegalabortion since that can endanger their lives and their future.
