My Journey

I come from the eastern part of Nigeria and am born into a family of six. I come from a community where the girl child is not valued and properly catered for. Historically, my community is known for mat making and statistics has shown that over 90% of mat makers are women. since they have been denied access to good quality education, they channel their passion into mat making, subsistence farming and raising a family.

I started a mind-shift campaign which entails hosting seminars, life-coaching session, foundation for business strategy and planning workshop. this has helped changed their mindset and discover hidden potentials, spark-up innovations and make them begin to aspire greater heights (since majority of our speakers and trainers are women), it has helped them see life beyond the circumstances surround them at the moment. we had a one-on-one session with these women and we discovered all of them either wanted to learn a new skill, start a business or a company, go back to school in order to improve their quality of living.

I began a vocational training school and an entrepreneurship development center named ''Baton Switch'' and we have trained over two hundred women since August 2015. we would also like to bring partial and fully scholarship opportunities to those women in my community who love to go back to school. I have gotten a lot of support from friends and family, but this has helped us reach 25% -35% of the applications we get. we would appreciate having more partnership with organisations, life-coaches and counsellors , information on scholarship opportunities and financial support to pay staffs and vocational trainners so we could empower more women and change the trend.
