About Me: I am a dalit woman belonging to the traditionally untouchable Mahar caste in India. I come from a very poor farmer family and have had to struggle against both poverty and patriarchy. I am an activist and researcher in the field of women's rights.

It is such a joy to welcome you to our community. I so applaud the efforts of courageous women like you, who dare to speak out and in turn, educate us on the challenges and issues facing Dalit women every day.

I have only been recently introduced to the challenges Dalit women face thanks to a posting by Sunita of Nepal, who talks about the oppression that comes from being born Dalit. (see link below) As Dalit, you are intimidated into being silent and invisible yet when you are given a voice, you have the ability to reform laws and transform lives. On PulseWire, you will find women who have dared to speak out and are making connections across oceans, continents, and cultural barriers to change the way we live. You are now a member of this vibrant community and I look forward to reading more about your passions, ideas, concerns and dreams. I know that you will find this to be a positive experience.

I look forward to reading more from you and wish you all the every best in your efforts to give voice to the many who have been silent or oppressed for too long. In spirited sisterhood, Janice http://www.worldpulse.com/node/13951

Know that you are not alone, although it may seem like it. You are a brave woman and I consider myself fortunate to read about you in this forum. I also look forward to reading more from you.

I want to add my voice to the others here in welcoming you to this community. I look forward to hearing more of your story and the work you do.

I think this community offers such a great space to share your stories and meet others for whom your work will be both a challenge and comfort, as well as finding support for yourself. I am encouraged simply reading your introduction, and want to encourage you as an activist!

What a warm welcome you have given me. I am sorry for the delay in acknowledging it but I have been busy with my field work and also my studies for my MPhil degree. I was educationally challenged because due to poverty I had to leave studies after school and begin working. But now I am making amends and this takes up a lot of my time. I will post some new stories in my journal shortly. Even though I have put my Id as gunu_k my name is actually Subhadra Khaperde Subhadra

Women like me who are first generation literates hailing from a very oppressive social and economic background need to be hand held through the online world! Thank you for providing this guidance.
