Parents have a key role to play in preparing girls for Menstruation

This week, Network for Community Development embarked on training pupils on Menstrual Health Management as a move to make periods normal for girls. Out of the 3 schools we trained, 40 out of the 52 girls  had their first periods without prior knowledge of what would happen to them. Only 2 had got information about menstruation from their peers and 10 had got prior information from their parents, teachers or guardians.

We had a discussion with parents and this is what they had to say "We are shy to discuss issues of menstruation with our children, even when we decide to talk to them, we are not sure of how to start this subject".  From August to December 2018, we will have open conversations with parents on Menstrual Health Management under the theme " Break the Silence, make periods normal for girls". Join us with in the campaign to make periods normal for girls.  Ideas, suggestions can be emailed at admin@ncduganda.org/ ncduganda@gmail.com
