Glad to be back in action

Running for My Life 2017: Day 67

Elisha and I took a break from biking and running, and instead we went to Five Star Academy. Well, it was such a huge relief to finally resume Lifesong Kenya's program and activities at Five Star Academy in Kangemi. The enthusiasm of the children to pick up from where we left, was so inspiring I didn't feel like I had been away.

We stop learning when we stop asking questions and exploring

And having Tracy Hanson - who will be traveling to India, Nepal and eventually return to the USA - explore the Matrix of a Learner was a big boost to the brainstorming activity we had with the high schoolers. I realized the children had missed learning from our activities. The most touching was when one the girls came and shared how she felt about the long break I took in 2016.

"Teacher James," she said. "I didn't like how you went without saying goodbye! You made us start doing things we were not used to."

"And what was that?" I asked, part curious and part apprehensive.

"We started a group and agreed to write a book about our experiences and hopes in life," she replied. "And when you stopped coming, we, I, felt very disappointed and discouraged. Why did you stop coming?"

"I took a break to think about my life, goals and what I really wanted to do," I explained. "Now, I am back!"

Glad to be back in action!!!

"Here is an idea we had," she continued. "We want to write a book about our lives."

"Yes," I said. "What's the title?" I asked.

"Journey Through Life," she smiled. "And Teacher Charles told us you can help us. Yes?" she added, and suddenly I felt my heart race in fear and hope, all in equal measure.

As the group continued discussing and sharing their ideas with me, I whispered a prayer. I usually give my all to the things I put my hands to. At the end of my long break in 2016, I decided to resume working with children and the boys in juvenile prison. I hope that this time round I won't have to stop doing so due to lack of funds and resources. And if that ever happens again, I pray for strength.
