Introducing myself and my journal: Constant Motion

About Me:
I am a returning student, currently in the process of obtaining my MSW (Master's of Social Work) from Columbia University. My desire to return to school came as I had gone as far up the ladder as I could with a bachelor's degree in addition to my storng desire to learn, and a desire to international development interests. While attending Columbia I am also working to launch an NGO called The Cambodia Project (www.thecambodiaproject.org) as the Corporate Development Manger.

Prior to returning to school I spent several years working in higher education, most recently as the Associate Director of the Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). In this position I worked to organize college students around community projects with local non-profit organizations. I loved this job as it welded multiple interests of mine together such as working with young people, the local community, and non-profit organizations. Before working at TCNJ I worked at Princeton University, doing very similar work.

My personal life:

I come from a family of 6 (including my parents and myself). I have two sisters and one brother who I love very much. While family can be strenuous at times, I am extremely greatful for them as they have provided support, encouragement, sensitivity and laughter.

At present I am engaged to a wonderful man named Harpreet. Although we come from very different backgrounds, and have pursued very different careers - we work well together. He is extremely supportive of my interests and passion which I deeply appreciate.

I am very passionate about human rights, community development, social justice and equity. My entire career has focused on these aspects, and I plan on keeping it that way. Outside of this, I believe that having fun, creative, intelligent and innovative people around is a must in life. I have amazing friends who I feel blessed to have in my life.

My Passions:
Human Rights, women's rights

My Challenges:
Working with people who can't put themselves in other's shoes

My Vision for the Future:
A more equitable world

My Areas of Expertise:
Motivating and energizing people, critical analysis, strategy,
