2013 VOF Module 1 Reflection Questions

The most difficult challenge for the Module 1 assignment was the time. I did not finish the interview one week before the deadline. Then when Ms. Michiyo Tani, the person I interviewed, put off the appointment, I honestly came under tension and felt that I could not make it. I had other deadlines and obligations that were pressing on me simultaneously. Ms. Tani was not easy to reach even though I had her mobile numbers. She travels from one home to another, frequently spending for long time discussion with other workers.

Under restrictive circumstances, though I believe that I had handled fairly well. First of all, Ms. Tani never made me feel nervous because she does not have the air of haughty pride or superiority. She talks with me at the same level. When I interviewed her, Ms. Tani did not even sit down with me to answer the questions. I got to see her early in the morning around 7 am. While interviewing, she was collecting dirty clothes, fixing beds, and cleaning the care home! I was following her meantime with my tape-recorder on. But she came to give me full attentions when I asked her about the important aspects of women in leadership, and how to motivate the employees. Within a day, I gave her copy of the write-up in Japanese since she cannot read English. She corrected some mistakes.

Just only a few days before the deadline, my vision mentor and editorial mentor had worked things out for me to be able to submit the assignment. They well deserve praise for being in harmony despite that we all are in different continents! They are capable, equipped and understanding at the same time. I am thankful to my sister also who cooked and cleaned while I had no time of doing it. The assignment was the product of all who are involved. Without them, it was not possible.

Next time, I want to finish interview earlier considering the possible delay.
