Web 2.0 - The World in my Bedroom'

2013 – VOF WEEK 1 ASSIGNMENT
‘Web 2.0 – The World in my Bedroom’

What more can one say - it couldn’t have been better. With the emergence of digital media communications, the entire orbit is reduced into a mere global village!
Sometimes, when i reminiscent about my childhood days, i mean – when i was a teenager. It was really hard growing up. There were no other forms of communicating with friends, family and other close acquaintances. Except only through the letters we wrote and posted at the post offices. These, however, took ages to get to their destinations. Eventually, this stole the fun the desire to communicate and keeping –in-touch. Then, there were friends we made, really good friends – but we never did keep in touch because there was simply no way to do that. But today, anytime and anywhere i am connecting with friends, colleagues and family – courtesy of Web 2.0.
The importance and benefits of web 2.0 cannot be over emphasized.
A thousand and one women are able to connect, network, share experiences and learn good practices from one another simply by hooking-on to the web.
Knowledge – they say is power! This obviously is the information age. Lots of information are disseminated via web 2.0 and this has affected the lives of many women out there for the better. This is the greatest form of empowerment that ever existed in our time.
Great walls of barriers between us and our dreams have been shattered since the emergence of digital media communications. Women all over the world are adding the voices to the issues that confront them daily and are connecting with other women for feasible solutions to these thematic issues irrespective of culture, race and distance. Definitely, web 2.0 is our own platform whereby we can be heard, represented and connect with other women, everywhere and on the same issues.
Web 2.0 along with the other media gadgets can be empowering for me in the following ways;
Via Facebook – i connect easily with old time friends, corporate colleagues and acquaintances on a regular basis right from the comfort of my bedroom. Unlike the letter, on yahoo messenger, issues are tackled and responded to in good time rather than waiting to write a letter. This helps great deal in time response to issues.
Skype – on the other hand is another magic that thrills me a great deal. It makes everything real. You get to see the people you are communicating with, their actions and non-verbal mannerisms. This really goes a long way in determining the feedback.
Education and Training: It has never been this good. One doesn’t need to be in a formal class room to access education any longer. All you need to do is go on-line and via web – it’s yours truly.
Same thing applies to Social Entrepreneurs. Once on-line, anything can happen!
This really is the world right in the comfort of your bedroom! You tell me about it!
